In the last twelve months, the earth's natural reserves of high-grade wit have plummeted drastically. This horrendous state of affairs has been precipitated by the deaths first of Harry Secombe, then of Douglas Adams, and now, the mother-of-all-losses, Spike Milligan. That's it — write the yearbook now; chisel it in stone, for there will be no greater loss to the Art of Funny this year. 2002 was the year we lost Spike. I was hoping he would prove to be immortal.

The King and Last of the Goons is dead. Long live the Goons.
