Hello again, folks. This is just another one of those non-specific journal entries about why things are quiet, and so on. I'm still in the process of getting ADSL installed, and the service provider is taking a very long time about it. Normally that would give me serious cause for complaint, but they're fortunate in that I'm in no hurry to get it. The cable modem service hasn't been acting up so badly of late, and so I'm a pretty happy camper with regards to Internet access. When the ADSL install does arrive, however, I'm going to be up to my neck in reconfiguration and other nasty stuff for a couple of days as I change all the IP addresses in the DNS, retire the Pentium 133 server that's been chugging away for four years, migrate all the services to the new server, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

I might even cope with it if it happens this week. I've just finished section one of my thesis for BSc(Hons), and it's already larger than anything else I've published on Nutters. Still, I'm taking pretty well to the task of reading RFCs and churning out thesis six days a week. Sunday is deliberately a thesis-free day: the brain needs a rest from it every now and then. It certainly helps to be enthused with the subject material. Mind you, it has a somewhat detrimental impact on what little social life I can claim to have. If I feel like striking up conversation with someone, I find it hard to think of anything to talk about except the thesis. I don't get to do much of anything else at the moment.

So, I'm sorry to say that there's not a lot else likely to be happening here at Nutters for a while, other than the distinct possibility that it will finally migrate to www.nutters.org (and break your bookmarks, if you have them). If this forced fast simply isn't good enough, then you may care to read the extended email exchange that I had with Aaron Krowne. Who, you ask? He's the person most directly responsible for my penning of Objections to Monkey Math. After a public exchange of essays, we had a little private debate in email. It terminated abruptly when Aaron resumed his university studies, but if debates between amateur creationists and evolutionists interest you, then refer to Aaron's timeline of the debate.

Lastly, readers may be interested to know that my recent log entry, Current Thoughts on Intellectual Property, is, along with The Intellectual Slave, a submission to WIPOUT's essay contest. It's probably less of an essay than the earlier submission, but I think they are both good entries in that they actually address the assigned topic, namely, "what does Intellectual Property mean to you in your daily life?" My two (so far) essays appear in the list of English-language essays. I'm entitled to submit a third if I want to, but unless I encounter another way in which Intellectual Property impacts my daily affairs, I won't.

And, so saying, he put away his quill, returned the lid to the inkwell, and forsook further company with his escritoire in favour of bed.
