What-what-what-what-what-what-what-what? Sir Harry Secombe has died? Well, he always was under six feet.
I asked a Welsh co-worker of mine earlier this week, "do you know who my favourite Welshman is?" He guessed it might be Tom Jones — spare me! Sir Harry Secombe was the correct answer. I'm one of those people who marinated my brain in Goon sauce during my teenage years, despite the fact that The Goon Show was a product of the fifties and I was a product of the seventies.
Sir Harry is Goon, but not forgotten. His legend lives on in demented brains such as mine in the form of the immortal Neddy Seagoon. Spike Milligan, himself the essence of Goon, is the last of The Goon Show core team to survive. Spike is a legend, and I hope to have the chance to do some service for him someday as a token of my appreciation for his four-dimensional wit.
