Yesterday, in addition to giving my beard a much-needed trim, I wore a tie to work. Many people would consider this unremarkable, but I'm a software engineer employed with other typical software engineers at a big ISP. Even the boss doesn't usually wear a tie. The last time I wore a tie was at my job interview, over a year ago, and at that time their only reservation about me was my "dress standards". I think they meant it somewhat ironically.
So turning up wearing a tie is bound to cause a stir. Quite a number of people remarked on how dressed-up I was (all for the sake of one tie). A couple of people wanted to know where the job interview was. One person thought I was attending my graduation ceremony. Thus, a certain amount of stir did indeed happen.
But nobody made any comment about the fact that it was a Dilbert tie (from Tie Rack). I'd link to a picture of it, but Tie Rack's web site is very lame and doesn't show much of their product range.
